Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) is celebrating its 8th birthday this year. Now this is old in terms of software.
IE6 doesn’t support Transparency of PNG’s, some CSS. The Internet has grown considerably since the release of IE6 in 2001. Standards have become a priority for most designers out there, and all IE6 does is hinder the progress of design and development in terms of the Interent.
One can easily upgrade to IE7 or IE8 from Microsofts website.
Or change to a more user friendly and likely to show your website the way you want it to be such as Firefox.
.net magazine recently published a great article on IE6 which you can find on there website called Calling time on IE6
When one designs a website and usually has to spend several hours trying to figure out why ones website isn’t displaying correctly in 1 single browser IE6, and having to add a whole load of hacks to get it to look the way you want it to. There are several ways to get around the quirks that IE6 has, but why waste time on a dated technology when you can get better security and rendering in IE7.
Some IE6 Hack resources are: Conditional comments and Dean Edwards has created a script that fixes several problems in IE6 including PNG transparency and various CSS issues.
I honestly think that due to the age of IE6 it should be considered redundant, several large companies in the world have stopped supporting IE6. I think that in one of Microsofts many automatic updates, they should help the process of upgrading and just automatically update all people who are on IE6 to IE7.
